For
the past 3 years, after more than a decade of teaching, I have become involved in translating.
Within this field, I have translated from Italian to English individually and
in a team environment on a number of projects. These have ranged
from
simple documents to localizing web sites, complex feasibility plans
and/or manuals. Most often, the topics involve technical matters
in
the mechanical, automotive, IT, electrical, civil engineering and
other industrial fields. I have also translated legal-related material
such as bids, feasibility
plans, contracts and corporate constitutions. I have discovered that I prefer
this sector in addition to translating material closely related to my humanistic background
which indirectly included translation. In
fact, even though I was not formally trained as a translator, I
was exposed to it in my advanced Literary Studies. During my M. A. Studies at Wayne State University,
I studied with Prof. A. Di Tommaso, the Italian Literature
Renaissance Specialist and Translator (for whom I proof-read the
bilingual ed. of M.
M. Boiardo's Amorum Libri) who proudly recalled having been
a student of Prof. Charles Singleton. My exposure to it continued at Indiana University, where I studied with
Prof. Mark Musa, Dante's Specialist and Divine
Comedy Translator. |
